Kristen Dorsey first started creating jewelry while studying at Tufts University and earning her degree in American studies with a concentration in Native American studies. After graduating she proceeded to perfect her techniques at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, MA. In her opinion, jewelry is not just something used to complete an outfit. Her inspirations include the Chickasaw and other Native American visual traditions, the beauty of the California Coast, and her belief that culture can be lost but art can be used as an important reminder. Her goal is “to create timeless jewelry which is rooted within tradition while maintaining a contemporary edge and elegance.” In 2012, the stunning Gifty Ofori, Miss Universe Ghana, wowed the crowd as she walked the stage at the Miss Universe Pageant in Las Vegas, styled in Kristen Dorsey one-of-a-kind jewelry.
